Valle del Jerte
Just 30 minutes from Las Cabañas de la Vera (the La Vera cabins), you will encounter a true natural paradise called the Jerte Valley, boasting gorges with
crystal clear waters, traditional architecture, forests of oak and chestnut trees, and the Jerte river passing through, from which the area takes its name.
The Jerte Valley encompasses the Gredos mountains to the south, and the Candelario Mountains to the north, passing through the Tormantos and San Bernabé ranges. Jerte’s highest points are found at Calvitero at 2405 metres and Covacha at 2394 metres.
This area has a very unique microclimate, with mild temperatures during both summer and winter.
The jewel of Jerte is the Garganta los Infiernos Nature Reserve, with its famous basins, which are natural pools formed over time by the waters of the gorge.
In the north of Cáceres, unique to this area is the unrivalled Cerezo en Flor (Cherry blossom) festival which takes place each year to celebrate the 800,000 cherry trees which turn white, creating an exceptional sight. Most tourists have rarely had the opportunity to enjoy such a wonderful spectacle.
